To fringe or not to fringe?

I finished my mother's scarf this weekend and I think it turned out pretty well. I am not sure I like the cast on so I think I might put fringe on it.

Just Keep Spinning...

Fun fun times. Karrie gave me some more fiber to play with, and I am in the middle of spinning it. The texture is not nearly as nice as the yellow fiber but I much prefer the color. I am not sure what I will do with it. It has been much easier to spinning thinner yarn though. I shall have to find something nice to give to Karrie now. Or cash. What is nicer than cash?

Trader Joe's Rocks

We were at trader joes the other night right before our knitting night at the Mel-O-Dee. They now have these kits for making guacamole and salsa. I think they are super cute. I am planning on making salsa tonight. Avocados aren't quite ready.

Update ... prior to posting.
So I made the salsa for Wednesday night.

Little garlicky but alright. I got the jalapeno juice on my fingers, and it took overnight to wear off.

I made guacamole today. These kits are pretty neat. All the stuff you need. I am just waiting for the flavors to mellow.

Spinning efforts

So I here are some of my first spinning efforts.
The first is sort of three amalgamations of the fibers that Pat gave us to try at West Valley. There is some merino, some alpaca, and some other random sheep. Not very much and it is pretty ugly. Pablo attacked it so perhaps I should make a cat toy out of it.
Next Karrie gave me some old roving that Sarah's grandma had. It made about 60 yards of sort of thick thin yarn. It is more than a little over spun in places. Not sure what to do with it either. I made a small swatch. There were suggestions that I make a scarf, but I don't wear yellow.

Pablo also attacked the yellow yarn as well as the pile of angora goat hair that one of the guys at the spinning class gave us.

I learned how to spin this weekend...

Abby and I took a spinning wheel class at West Valley Alpaca. It was awesome.
I wasn't very good though. I was able to make some very very ugly yarn.

Yahtzhee!

Sweet. Abby and I have signed up for a beginning spinning wheel class at West Valley Alpaca for next weekend. I have been wanting to take a spinning class for a while, and it should be a blast.

All and all this was a very good weekend. I spent yesterday hanging out with Karrie and Abby making buttons. This one was my favorite. Made form vintage yahtzee cards. Did I mention I got a new camera for xmas?

I spent last night playing board games, knitting (nearly done with that damn scarf), drinking, and bbqing.

Also spent today at Daiso, a Japanese dollar store or more precisely a 100 yen store. Pretty much everything was $1.50. Needless to say I spent way too much money. This is only a very small sampling. The only things I bought which weren't $1.50 was a set of 5 coordinating chair cushions which were $3 apiece. There was a ton of super cute tuperware that I picked up. I bought a whole bunch of glass and coffee cups as well as matching sugar and cream pitchers. Also found such odd things a egg stands, sesame seed grinders, and doughnut cutouts. I got a bunch of school supplies as well and picking up a few insulated lunch bags and some random notions bags. I am not sure how it all added up to $80. I feel like she must have rung up a bunch of stuff twice. Oh, I forgot all the kitchen towels and dish/bar rags as well.

I am also very excited for new TV tonight. Perhaps I shall knit and watch the new desperate housewives. Or perhaps not. Depends.

Late Christmas present

So I finally started my mother's Christmas present. I am using the 6-ply merino in Burgundy from handpaintedyarn.com on 5.5 mm needles and am using a pattern I found on Knitting on the Rogue River aptly titled Mom's Lace Scarf. I think I cast on too tightly, but I am too lazy to restart it. It is about half done.

Some Pet Pics...

A couple of cute pictures....
Sydney giving his "throw the stick" look at a beleaguered flying squirrel. Pablo blesses latest knitting project.
